Code Crew: Grade 2
Hands on the controls.
Functions, variables, and the first real bug-hunts of your kid's coding life. Blocks with an optional text mode for kids who want it.
10 to 15 minutes a day, four or five days a week.
What kids will learn
Code Crew: Grade 2 is the Crew Pilot chapter of the Code Crew ladder. Scratch-style block coding plus a kid-friendly text mode. Loops, conditionals, variables, and the first real bug-hunts.
- Use variables to store and update a number or word
- Define and reuse a function
- Read a 10 line program and predict what it will do
- Use a counted loop (for-loop, introductory)
- Compare two values and act on the result
- Work through a multi-step bug-hunt with a logbook
Sample activities
Two short looks at what a session inside Code Crew: Grade 2 actually feels like.
Sample activity, Week 4
The fleet auto-pilot has a bug. Kids open the comms log, find the line where the path goes wrong, swap two blocks, and watch the ship land cleanly. First taste of the "read, isolate, fix" loop a real engineer uses every day.
Sample activity, Week 9
Define a function called LAND that lowers the gear, slows the engines, and touches down. Now call LAND on three different missions. Kids feel the "name a thing once, reuse it forever" moment.
Is it the right fit?
A great next stop after Grade 1 or for any second grader who has tinkered with Scratch and is ready for a structured curriculum.
